Blueberry Griddle Cakes ($14)

Friends have raved on to me about Pieno’s Blueberry Griddle Cakes, but every time I went, I always reverted back to ordering the hearty breakfasts with eggs and toast etc….but today, I finally took the step to find out whether the Blueberry Griddle Cakes ($14) were really that good or not.

I’ve already written a review about Pieno in general (click here to read), so I’ll just write about the griddle cakes here. 

At first, I didn’t know how to describe it. It’s similar to a pancake yet not quite. As much as I enjoy pancakes, not many places around Sydney know how to make decent ones - they always break into pieces the second you stab your fork inside to try and pick it up. The griddle cake didn’t break apart, the texture was similar to that of a blueberry muffin but a little more dense. 

I loved it. 

It was soft & sweet and it’s a great alternative to pancakes (especially when the pancakes everywhere else are pretty disappointing). The Blueberry Griddle Cakes are served in a triple stack and served with a generous amount of maple syrup with icing sugar on top. The two things I would change are that I’m going to request to have the syrup separate next time, because I didn’t like my last griddle cake drowned in uber sweetness; and it would be nice to have some fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice-cream options to balance out the sweet taste.

Soy Chai Brewed Tea

I enjoyed my griddle cakes with, of course, my favourite Soy Chai Brewed Tea with honey…. 

It was a chilly yet beautiful day on Crown St.
